Dr. Acosta grew up in the Coachella Valley in Southern California and graduated from Coachella Valley High School. He graduated from the University of California Irvine in 1993 and went to medical school at the University of California Davis where he graduated in 1997. Dr. Acosta completed a 5 year General Surgery Residency and was Chief Resident at the Martin Luther King Jr./Charles Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles. He also did two years of intense basic science research at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles in preparation for his fellowship in Pediatric Surgery. His cellular research at CHLA focused on the role of fibroblast growth factors in lung development. After completion of his general surgery residency in 2004 he did subspecialty training for 2 years as the Pediatric Surgery Fellow at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Acosta is Board Certified in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Acosta lives in Phoenix with his wife and five children. His interests include baseball, softball, and basketball.
